Weekend in Sofia - Version A
(3 days-2 overnights)

Day 1 - Arrival in Sofia before noon. Check-in hotel for 2 overnights. A sightseeing tour of the city: the central area with possibilities to visit "St. Alexander Nevski" Cathedral, "St. George" church (4th c.) the "St. Petka of the Saddlers" church, archaeological sites with Roman and Mediaeval ruins, the Russian church. In the evening a folklore dinner with national meals and drinks, traditional dances and songs can be organised.
Day 2
Option 1)
- One day excursion to the Rila Monastery: the biggest and most remarkable Bulgarian monastery, founded in the 10th c., with impressive architecture and valuable wood-carvings, frescoes and icons (14-19th c.), situated in a beautiful nature reserve in Rila mountain. Included visit of the church and the museum.
Option 2) - One day excursion to Plovdiv, the second biggest town in Bulgaria, with a sightseeing tour of the old part of the city (mainly on foot) with remnants from Thracian, Greek, Roman and Mediaeval times, including visit to the Roman Theatre (2nd c A. D.) and the Ethnographic Museum.
Option 3) - One day excursion to Koprivshtitsa, a museum town hidden in a small valley high up in the slopes of Sredna Gora mountain. Over two hundred authentic houses, excellent examples of the Bulgarian Revival architecture (18th - 19th c.), have survived through the centuries. Narrow cobbled streets are lined with wooden houses, the bright colours on the facades are as vivid as they were in the time of the Bulgarian Revival.
Day 3 - Free time and departure.
