Sandanski



The town of Sandanski is situated in South West Bulgaria, along the Struma river valley at the foot of the Pirin mountain. Its population is 26 000.
Sandanski is situated on the highway Sofia-Saloniki-Athens. A railway connection with Sofia, Saloniki and Athens exists, too. The distance to Athens is 615 km. The distance to Sofia is 170 km. The distance to Saloniki is 140 km.
The inconceivable air purity, the total absence of allergen aerosols and the mineral springs have contributed to the fame of Sandanski as an unique spa. The hyper thermal mineral waters (42-48 Degree) are clear, odorless and pleasant tasting, slightly mineralized, hydrocarbonic-sulphate-sodium, rich in fluorine and metasilicic acid, with a neutral to mild alkaline reaction. These natural curative factors exert and almost miraculous effect on diseases of the locomotory system and the functional nervous disorders, diseases of the digestive system, disturbances of the metabolism, skin diseases and allergies, post fracture states and conditions, diseases of the upper respiratory tracts and non - specific pulmonary diseases.
Sandanski is the warmest city in Bulgaria. The winter is mild and rainy. Under the influence of the Mediterranean, spring starts already in April and autumn lasts almost till December. The summer is hot. The temperatures in June, July and August are similar to those in Athens. The sum of the annual sunshine duration is 2506 hours, and in Athens it is 2779 hours.
